PairScan (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and share information when you use the PairScan mobile application and website.
Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect your email address and, if you use social sign-in (Apple or Google), the basic profile information provided by those services. We never store your social sign-in passwords.
Menu Scans
When you scan a restaurant menu, we process the image to extract text (dish names, wine names, prices). By default, PairScan keeps only the extracted text metadata and deletes menu photos after your session. We do not retain the original images unless you explicitly save them.
Taste Profile
Your taste quiz responses and pairing history are stored to improve your recommendations. This data is tied to your account and is not shared with third parties.
Usage Data
We collect anonymous analytics data (screen views, feature usage, error reports) to improve the app. This data is processed by PostHog and cannot be used to identify you personally.
How We Use Your Information
- To provide and improve wine pairing recommendations
- To personalize your experience based on your taste profile
- To process your subscription and manage your account
- To send you important service updates (not marketing emails)
- To analyze aggregate usage patterns and improve the app
Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with:
- AI providers (Google Gemini) — to process menu images and generate pairing recommendations. Only extracted text is sent; images are not retained by the AI provider.
- Payment processors (Apple App Store, Google Play) — to manage your subscription. We never see or store your payment details.
- Analytics (PostHog) — anonymous usage data only.
Data Retention
Scan history and taste profile data are retained as long as your account is active. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from the app's settings.
Your Rights
You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. You can also export your data at any time. Contact us at hello@pairscan.app for any privacy-related requests.
Children's Privacy
PairScan recommends alcoholic beverages and is not intended for use by anyone under the legal drinking age in their jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the app or by email. Your continued use of PairScan after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
